Why Are Employers Hiring Indonesian Maids?
Indonesian Maids or Indon Maids remain one of the most popular hiring choice compared to the Burmese (from Myanmar), and Mizoram (from India) maids due to a good number of factors.
Firstly, there are many older Singaporeans who are able to speak some form of basic of Malay. Hence, with easier communication from the onset, many Singaporean families choose to hire an Indonesian maids to easier ease, train and settle them into their households. There is a smaller communication gap at the start, and we are better able to bridge it with some form of basic Malay.
In addition, due to the multiracialism of our country, there is a considerable size of Malay population here in Singapore who prefer to hire a domestic helper with similar religious faith.
Thirdly, the Indonesian Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) are known to be more willing to provide care to the infants, children, and elderlies.
Last but not least, in terms of Indonesian maids’ abilities to cook and the flavour of their cooked dishes, the Indonesian food culture is tasty, familiar and quite popular amongst Singaporeans. When we think about Indonesian food, what comes to mind are the marriage of spices, a good curry or a sumptuous rendang chicken, and even our local nasi goreng. The list goes on. These are dishes that local Singaporean Domestic Employers can relate to and are familiar with. How comforting to come home to the delight of such familiar dishes!
